Josiah did not come to Baltimore, Maryland with his father sometime in the early 1850's. guess is that he stayed with his family in Loudon County, Va. A Josiah Magaha did show up as a Confederate Solider during the Civil War. The unit was Orr's South Carolina Rifles. He enlisted in July 1861 at Camp Pickens S.C. It was not unusual for a man to live in one State and enlist in another state. Josiah was put in the hospital in Charleston, S.C. in October, 1861; he was then discharged from the Confederate Army on January 12, 1862. There is no more information about Josiah after this time; we are still trying to prove the connection between the Josiah Magaha in the Confederate Army and Sam's son Josiah.
