Biography John Dorsey was born in County Claire, Ireland, we have not found his birth date or the name of his parents.
On November 13, 1851 he landed in New York aboard the ship Telamin, which sailed from Liverpool, England. During this time
period many Irish Immigrants came to this country because of the Potato famine in Ireland. Less than a year later he married
Catherine Lillis. During their marriage John and Catherine had eleven children together many of them dying at a young age.
In the 1900 census there were only six children still living. John was a tailor by trade, we are not sure weather he had his
own business or weather he worked for someone else. John died on May 8, 1887. his death certificate did not give a cause of
death. John left a will: It said " First and principally I commit my soul into the hands of Almighty God and my body to the
earth to be decently buried at the discretion of my executrix hereinafter named, after my debts and funeral charges are paid
I give devise and bequeath unto my beloved wife Catherine Dorsey all my right title and interest in house and premises
known as No. 1026 S. Paca Street during her life and after her death the said house No. 1026 S. Paca Street to my five unmarried
daughters Mary Ellen Dorsey, Margaret Ann Dorsey, Elizabeth Dorsey, Catherine Dorsey, and Agnes Dorsey. I give and devise
and bequeath unto my son Michael J. Dorsey five dollars. I give devise and bequeath unto my son George W. Dorsey five
dollars. John was buried on May 11, 1887 in St Peter's Cemetery in west Baltimore (Bentlou and Winchester Sts.. John was reburied
along with his wife and many of his children on December 19, 1901. Catherine (Lillis) Dorsey was reburied from within the
same plot and buried next to John. She was also reburied at the same time December 19, 1901
