Biography: Catherine Lillis was born in Limerick Ireland to Roger and Susanna (Ryan) Lillis. She came to the United States
aboard the ship Empire State landing in New York on November 14, 1851. She departed Ireland for the United States via Liverpool
England. An Irish Genealogist told me many Irish came through England to the U.S. during the potato famine. On the ship with
her were: Margaret Lillis age 11, James Lillis age 17, Pat Lillis age 12, Nick Lillis age 10. She married John Dorsey on the
26 June 1852 and they had eleven children together, many who died at a very young age. John and Catherine lived most of their
married life at 1026 S. Paca Street,the home is no longer there. After John's death , he left the house to Catherine and her
five unmarried daughters. Before her death she moved with her daughters (Mary and Margaret) to 1606 Hollins St. Catherine
died on 29 of June 1901 and was interred in New Catheral Cemetery on the 2nd of July 1901. John, her husband was
orginally interred at St Peter's Cemetery, but was relocated in New Cathreal Cemetery along side of Catherine. her obituary
taken out of the Baltimore Sun read as follows: " Dorsey --- On June 29, 1901, Catherine, relic of the late John Dorsey, a
native of the city of Limerick Ireland. Have you a mother? Love her well. While she is on this earth; Do not wait until she
is called away, to know her precious worth. By her Daughters. Relatives and friends of the family
are respectfully invited to attend her funeral, from her late residence, No. 1606 Hollins Street on Tuesday at 8:30 oclock
thence to St. Martin's Church, where a requiem High Mass will be said for the repose of her soul.
